The High Point Bell Team of High Point Baptist Academy has become one of the top teenage musical groups in the great state of Pennsylvania.
Their director, D.J. Soto, came to High Point in January 2001 right out of college. After two years of diligent preparation (and lots of fun), High Point exploded on the scene last year under D.J.'s direction. In April 2003, they won first place in handbells at the American Association of Christian Schools national competition. They played totally memorized
"Tempest" (McChesney) and "Pinnacle" (Payn). The ABC show, Nightline, was at the competition and filmed different events. In June 2003, the bell team was shown on ABC Nightline playing parts of Tempest. They also have produced their own C.D., "New Horizons", released last spring.
2004 was an exciting year for High Point Bells. In January, they had the privilege of giving a concert for the Handbell
Exploration in Hershey, PA. They also won the American Association of
Christian Schools national competition for the second year in a row.
That
year's competition pieces included Kevin McChesney's "A Festive Chime" and the
"Italian Symphony." They also have produced their second CD entitled
"Resonance." The team was selected in a national audition to perform at the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers 50th Anniversary Celebration in Norfolk, Virginia
on July 26th, 2004. n April 2005, the team won first place in handbells
at the American Association of Christian Schools national competition for
the third consecutive year.
With their passion for the bells, this group of teenagers loves to inspire and impact hearts through their performances. Whether playing for a small group of children or before an audience over a thousand,
the High Point Handbell Team strives to play passionately with all their hearts for God who has blessed them more than they could have imagined.
