Detentions

Purpose - The detention system is a disciplinary action taken when a student misbehaves or fails to be prepared for class.

Specific reasons for detention -

Excessive tardiness to class

Misconduct in class

Removal from class

Dress code violations

Violation of student conduct

Detentions may be issued at the discretion of the principal.

Time - Monday and/or Thursday immediately after school (3:05 - 3:50) in specified room

Materials - Students are to bring classroom assignments and/or study material, although the teacher and/or the detention hall teacher may designate the detention all as "strict" with no work allowed. Detention is not an extended study hall time.

Rules of Conduct - Students will be separated as much as possible. Talking is not permitted.

Repeated Detentions - A one-day suspension or a Saturday morning detention will be issued to the student who receives five detentions (or multiples thereof) within a nine-week marking period. Suspensions will occur after the fifth detention has been served. Work missed, including tests and quizzes, can be made up. Two percentage points will be deducted from the average of each subject at the end of the nine-week marking period for any suspension.

Discipline
High Point Baptist Academy provides an environment that is conducive to the spiritual growth and development of young people who are not yet mature Christians. All the activities of the Christian should be subordinated to the glory of God who indwells us (I Cor. 8:9; 12-13; 10:32). The Christian will endeavor to avoid practices which cause the loss of sensitivity to the spiritual needs of the world and the loss of the Christian's physical, mental, or spiritual well-being (I Cor. 9:17).

All students are to maintain a Christ-like attitude at all times.

The principal shall use whatever reasonable methods deemed necessary to maintain the standards of the Academy to help the students under his care. These methods may include student conferences, parent conferences, revocation of privileges, suspension, or expulsion.
